The meaning of IXTYS

The fish in Greek is IXTHYS and from its letters Jesus Christ, God’s Son, the Redeemer can be read out. The fish is a widely spread Christian symbol which summarises the Christian belief. Fish as a symbol can be found in early-Christian era. In old Palestine, the sketch of the fish was drawn on the ground with its head showing the way to the persecuted fellowship’s underground meeting point.
